1. Statewide Rebates: MiHER (Michigan Home Energy Rebates)
➤ Program overview:
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is rolling out two rebate programs under the Inflation Reduction Act:
A. Home Efficiency Rebates (HER)
- Whole-home upgrades (insulation, HVAC, air sealing)
- Modeled energy savings required
- Up to $20,000
B. Home Electrification & Appliance Rebates (HEAR)
- Includes heat pumps, water heaters, and electric panel upgrades
- Income-based rebates
- Up to $14,000
- Combined HER + HEAR = Up to $34,000 total
2. Federal Tax Credits (Inflation Reduction Act - Section 25C and 25D)
What’s available:
- 30% of installation cost, up to $2,000 annually for heat pumps, water heaters
- $600/year for A/C or furnace installs
- $600 for electrical panel upgrade (if related to installation)
- Claim via IRS Form 5695
- Valid through December 31, 2032

3. Local Utility Rebates in Michigan
Consumers Energy
Available for homeowners installing qualifying HVAC systems, tank or tankless water heaters, thermostats, insulation, and more.
- Must use a participating Trade Ally
- Submit the application within 30 days
- Current rebate forms are available for HVAC and water heating

Great Lakes Energy (GLE) – Energy Wise Program
Offered to GLE co-op members:
- Air Source Heat Pumps: $1,000–$1,500
- Ground Source Heat Pumps: $2,000
- Heat Pump Water Heaters: $1,200
- Standard Electric WH: $100
- Smart Thermostats: $100
- Battery Backup Systems: $1,000

MI EnergySmart Utility Rebates (City Utilities)
Serves areas like St. Louis, Portland, Eaton Rapids, etc. Offers water heater and HVAC rebates.

DTE Energy (Detroit Edison)
- Rebates for air conditioners, furnaces, and water heaters
- Available for residential customers only
- The program may vary by product type and region

Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL)
Offers rebates for replacing electric resistance heat and certain HVAC equipment:
- $500 rebate for electric resistance heat replacement
- Must be installed in the BWL territory

4. Michigan Propane Commission Rebates (Generators and Water Heaters)
These apply only to ENERGY STAR propane appliances – NOT gas or diesel generators:
- $250 to homeowner + $250 to installer for ENERGY STAR propane furnace
- $250 to homeowner + $250 to installer for ENERGY STAR propane water heater
- Must be replacing electric or oil equipment, or installed in a new home
- Application required within 60 days of installation

5. Trane Rebates (Available through Victory Heating & Cooling)
Trane offers national promotional rebates and qualifies for federal tax credits.
- Rebates vary by system, model, and efficiency tier
- Must meet CEE's highest non-advanced tier
- Products qualify for 25C tax credits

Generators (Diesel or Gas)
At this time, no state or federal rebates exist for traditional gas or diesel-powered Generac generators. However, battery-based backup systems may qualify under MiHER or through utility programs like GLE.
